Skills in Hand Heritage Open Day

  • The Oxford Arms Duke Street Kington, England, HR5 United Kingdom (map)

As part of Heritage Open Days, Britain’s biggest festival of history and culture, nine craftspeople will be stationed in our courtyard, barn, and gazebo on Sunday 14th September giving demonstrations of their traditional skills and allowing you to have a go. Three of the crafts on show are on the red list of endangered crafts, so this is a rare opportunity to see them first-hand!

You’ll see England’s last traditional clog-maker, Jeremy Atkinson; vardo and Romany artist Jane O’Connor; frame-quilter Rosamund Black; basket-weaver Laura Rowlatt; letterpress artist Graeme Hobbs; potter Nancy Frost; blacksmith Ambrose Burne; and paper-maker Sarah Rickett. There will be crafted items for sale, KLEEN will be giving demonstrations of apple pressing, and our bar and Caravan Café will be open with Drover’s Bait ploughman’s lunches available.

It’s free to attend and all are welcome!
